Tritons Hold Off Warriors 85-76 in NWAC Men’s Basketball Championship Opener, Presented by Sun Pacific Energy
PASCO, Wash. – In a fast-paced battle, the Edmonds Tritons men's basketball defeated the Walla Walla Warriors 85-76 to open the NWAC Men's Basketball Championship, presented by Sun Pacific Energy, on Friday at Columbia Basin College.
The #3-seeded Tritons (20-7, 9-5 North) led for the majority of the contest after an explosive first half leading 50-40. The teams took a combined 72 shots in a high-speed opening 20 minutes.
The #2-seeded Warriors (24-6, 13-3 East) put on a comeback attempt and cut the deficit down to one point at 74-73 with five minutes to play. However, Edmonds' Chris Lee connected on back-to-back threes that helped put the game away.
Lee led the Tritons with 28 points, shooting 11-for-22 from the floor. Elyon Zevenbergen recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards. Caleb Anglin came off the bench to also post a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Warriors spread the ball around well with all five starters reaching double-digit points. Kyson Rose led the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Trey Arland finished with 16 points and six boards, while Spencer Wright had 15 points, five rebounds and four steals.
The Tritons move onto the Elite 8 round and will take on the winner of Clackamas vs. South Puget Sound on Saturday at 2 p.m.
