LYNNWOOD, Wash. –
Hosea Phillips has been tabbed to lead the Edmonds College men's and women's cross country program.

Phillips is an award-winning coach with over 30 years of experience inspiring and supporting athletes so they can reach their potential academically and athletically. In 2015, he was recognized for his dedication in fostering and motivating high school track and field and cross country athletes as one of ten national finalists in Brooks Running Company's Inspiring Coaches of the Year.

Last fall he served as an assistant cross country coach at Everett CC. He was the head coach of the College Place Middle School cross country and track and field teams from 2018-2023. His 2023 girls 4x200 relay team posted the fastest time in the state of Washington. From 2006-2016 he led the Cleveland High School cross country and track programs, guiding them to the WIAA state championships after a 22-year drought. During his tenure they set a slew of new school records. Phillips is most proud of the academic state championships they received under his watch.

Phillips is no stranger to Edmonds College athletics – from 2001-2005 he served as an assistant men's basketball coach to the late Hall of Fame coach and legend, Keith Kingsbury. Phillips credits Kingsbury as his mentor. In 2001 & 2005 the squad won the North Region crown, with a 3rd place finish in 2001 and 7th place finish in 2005.

Phillips is a lifelong running enthusiast, which stems from his love of the sport while at Blaine High School where he was introduced to the sport, and ran for the Borderites. He is also an Edmonds College graduate and has a deep passion for the institution that feels like home to him.

"Hosea truly lives out his motto of making each day your best day, and it's not phony. What you see is what you get. He will reach our student-athletes and motivate them towards their goals," said athletic director Spencer Stark.

"We're going to build a strong cross country program that is committed to academics and excellence in the classroom and on the field," said Phillips.
