Lane Sweeps NWAC Cross Country Titles for 2nd Consecutive Year

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – For the second year in a row, the Lane men's and women's cross country teams swept the team titles at the NWAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Chambers Creek Regional Park.

Women's 5K Race
The women's five kilometer race opened the meet at 11 a.m. Immediately the Titans' trio of Cammeo Ramirez, Cydney Sanchez and Saundra Parsons jumped out ahead of the pack and set a torrid pace for the race. Ramirez took first place overall as the sophomore finished with a personal best time of 18:23.4. Sanchez took second in 18:27, followed by Parsons in third in 18:32.9.

Pierce's Anastasiia Lemesh, who won the Northwest Region individual title, broke up Lane's string of top runners as she took fourth in 19:14.6. Lane had the next finisher in Jazmine Liebl placed fifth in 19:18.4. Spokane's Charlotte Falstad placed sixth in 19:31.5 and 2021 champion Izabelle Anderson of Whatcom took seventh place to complete the NWAC All-Americans. Edmonds' Monserrat Lopez placed eight, Lane's Meg Hubbs took ninth and Clark's Jane Kuebrich rounded out the top-10.

Lane finished with 18 total team points to easily claim the championship. Clark placed second with 88 points as their five scorers finished in the top-25. Spokane took third place with 95 points, followed by Pierce, Green River, Everett, Clackamas, Umpqua, Olympic, Treasure Valley and Southwestern Oregon.

Men's 8K Race
After handily winning the women's title, the Lane Titans had an even more dominant performance in the men's 8K race as they finished with a minimum possible score of 15 points. The Titans had the top-five finishers overall, led by Logan Auxier who took the individual title. Auxier cruised to a personal-best time of 24:48, winning by 30 seconds. Ethan Hosang placed second in 25:18.6, followed by Dublin Gingerich in 25:53.3, Chad Hughes in 25:56.9 and RJ Kennedy in 25:59.3 to completed the sweep for the Titans.

Spokane had the next three finishers as they took second place as a team with 58 points. Gideon Swanson led the Sasquatch in sixth in 26:04.3. Kiler Borg placed seventh in 26:14.5 and Zachary Kness finished eighth in 26:18.1. Lane's Creed Bodily finished ninth and Green River's Colin Hitchcock, who won the men's Northwest Region title, placed 10th.

As a team, Green River took third place with runners finishing 10th, 11th, 13th and 14th. Clark placed fourth, followed by Treasure Valley, Edmonds, Olympic, Umpqua, Everett and Southwestern Oregon.

For the Lane women, it is their third title in the past three championship meets under head coach Bill Steyer, who was named the Coach of the Year for both teams. It is the second title in a row for the men's team and fifth in the past six championships.
