Spokane Advances to NWAC Finals via 5-3 Shootout Win over Peninsula

TUKWILA, Wash. - The Spokane Sasquatch advanced to the NWAC Finals via a 5-3 shootout win over the Peninsula Pirates on Friday night at the NWAC Championship at Starfire Stadium.

The Sasquatch are no strangers to shootouts as they previously advanced past the quarterfinal round with a 4-3 shootout win against Bellevue. Spokane and Peninsula also went to PKs in 2022 in the quarterfinals with the Sasquatch once again advancing 5-4.

In the shootout, both teams traded the first two goals. Then after Spokane went up 3-2, keeper Kami Warden made a great save to give the Sasquatch the lead after three rounds. After a pair of goals for each side, Gracie Reidt scored the fifth goal for CCS to move them onto the finals.

Warden and Peninsula keeper Talia Marini were both outstanding in net during regulation and overtime. Each keeper made seven saves, not allowing a goal in 110 minutes.

Peninsula overall led the shots 20-11 including a 6-2 advantage in the overtime periods. Spokane had a narrow lead of 6-5 in corner kicks. Abbey Jay for Spokane and Alexia Rodriguez-Bur, Shawna Larson and Anna Petty led the match with four shots each.

The Pirates finish another great season with a 16-0-3 record and have not officially lost a match still since 2019. They end the year as North Region champions and with a Final Four appearance.

Spokane will move onto the finals to take on a familar foe in Columbia Basin, with kickoff set for Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
