PASCO, Wash. –The Walla Walla Warriors won a defensive battle 46-38 over the Clackamas Cougars on Friday night in the Sweet 16 of the NWAC Women's Basketball Championship, presented by Golf Universe, at Columbia Basin College.
Both teams struggled to shoot the ball overall as the defenses forced tough opportunities all night. The Warriors limited Clackamas to 29.6 percent shooting and just 1-for-14 from beyond the arc, holding them to a season low scoring by more than 20 points.
On the other side, the Cougars held Walla Walla to 1-for-16 from beyond the arc and 32.1 percent overall. Walla Walla's biggest advantage came at the glass as they outrebounded Clackamas 50-30, which included 16 offensive rebounds.
Brielle Magnuson led the way for the Warriros with 16 points and 11 rebounds as she played all 40 minutes alongside teammate Dylan Lovett. Paige Pentzer had a big double-double of 11 points and 17 rebounds.
On the Clackamas side, Katie Kathan led the team with 16 points and five rebounds as she shot 8-for-15. Callie Glenn added seven points and four rebounds.
The Warriors move onto the Elite 8 round on Saturday at 4 p.m., taking on the winner of Lower Columbia and Bellevue in Friday's nightcap.
