NWAC Softball Championship Begins Thursday, Bracket Revealed
VANCOUVER, Wash. - The 2024 NWAC Softball Championship begins on Thursday as 16 teams will take the field with aspirations to hoist the trophy at the end of the 30 or 31-game, double-elimination tournament. The tournament is hosted by Chemeketa Community College, Clackamas Community College and Mt. Hood Community College and will be played May 16-19 at Delta Park - Owens Sports Complex in Portland, Ore.
The tournament starts at 10 a.m. with the first four opening round games. No. 2 seed and 2022 tournament champion Mt. Hood will take on No. 15 seed Yakima Valley. Two all-East region matchups will take place as No. 7 seed Treasure Valley will face No. 10 seed Columbia Basin, while No. 6 seed Wenatchee Valley plays No. 11 Walla Walla. Defending champion and No. 3 seeded Southwestern Oregon will play fellow South region opponent No. 14 Chemeketa to round out the first four games.
In the 1 p.m. time slot, No. 4 Lower Columbia will play No. 13 Douglas. No. 5 Spokane takes on No. 12 Everett. No. 8 Clackamas faces No. 9 Edmonds and No. 1 seed North Idaho will open their tournament against No. 16 Grays Harbor.
Sixteen games will be played on Thursday, with the field cut down to 12. Ten more games will be played on Friday with the final four teams advancing to Saturday, where three more games will be played to cut the field to just two. On Sunday, the final one or two games will be played, when a champion will be crowned.
