North Idaho Leads in Men’s & Women's Golf After Fall Competition

VANCOUVER, Wash. – North Idaho ends the fall golf season with a lead in both the men's and women's standings. The Cardinals took first place as a team on both sides at the Skagit Valley Cardinal Classic, the lone official league match of the fall season.

The women's team shot +81 as a team at the SVC Cardinal Classic, besting Bellevue by nine strokes. Spokane was third at +105, Columbia Basin fourth at +128 and Centralia fifth at +216.

Bellevue's Sarah Lawrence, the reigning NWAC Champion, continued to dominate NWAC competition by earning medalist honors with a score of 164 (+20). She was closely followed by teammate Tia Wolcott who shot +21. Spokane's Courtney Stratton took third at +24. The Cardinals were able to win as a team with five of the next seven best scores.

The 2021-22 champion Cardinals shot +28 as a team on the men's side to narrowly edge out Bellevue who shot +30. Southwestern Oregon was also in the thick of it shooting +34 over the two-day tournament. Spokane placed fourth at +70, followed by Skagit Valley (+84), Grays Harbor (+100), Columbia Basin (+121) and Highline (+133).

SWOCC's Jacob Gold was the medalist with a two-round score of 145 (+1). He was followed closely by Bellevue's Dalton Dean (+2). North Idaho's Josh McCartain and SWOCC's Gaige Pilot tied for third at +4.

NWAC golf teams competed in other event throughout the fall as well, including the Highline Showdown Oct. 3 and 4. At this event, Bellevue's Wolcott was the medalist shooting +7. Lawrence placed second at +14 and SWOCC's Sarah Gray placed third at +17. At the Columbia Basin Invitational, Lawrence once again took first at +9 in the final tournament of the fall. Gray took second at +17 and Wolcott finished third at +19.

On the men's side, Bellevue's Dean took first at the Highline Showdown. SWOCC's Tyler Garner placed second shooting par while Bellevue's Tyler Spalti finished third at +1. Finally at the CBC Invitational, Dean once again took first shooting par. Grays Harbor's Michael Jump, Garner, Gold and Spalti all tied for second at +5.

NWAC golf will start back up in April with the Columbia Basin Spring Invitational on April 16-17 in Canyon Lakes, Washington at the Meadow Springs Golf Course. The NWAC Championships will take place on May 21-22 at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima, Washington.
