Titans Keep Bats Hot in 10-5 Win over Linn-Benton to End Night 3 of NWAC Baseball Championship
LONGVIEW, Wash. – The Tacoma Titans continued their offensive barrage defeating Linn-Benton 10-5 on Saturday night to remain undefeated in the 2024 NWAC Baseball Championship at David Story Field.
The win for the Titans clinches their spot in Monday's championship day. Whether they will have two opportunities to win the title or one depends on their result on Sunday against Lower Columbia.
Linn-Benton jumped out a three-run lead in the top of the first as the first three batters reached on two walks and a base hit. A sacrifice fly and a couple of wild pitches allowed LBCC to take advantage with three runs.
From there, it was mostly all Titans as starting pitcher Tyler Logan did not allow a run over the next five innings. Overall, Logan went six innings with four hits allowed, three walks and six strikeouts.
The offense for the Titans got rolling in the fourth inning, putting up a crooked number with four runs on five hits. All four runs came across with two outs as Drew Johnson started the scoring with a two-run single. Jeramiah Crain followed two batters later with an RBI base hit and Logan Shepherd ended the inning with another RBI single.
The Titans added a run in the fifth on a Chase Cretti RBI triple with two outs to score Zion Williams. Linn-Benton cut into the deficit in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Aidan Dougherty and Jordan Hockett. However, the Titans had another big inning in the eighth with five runs as Aden Dance and Shepherd each brought home a pair.
Linn-Benton will next play in Game 12 of the tournament, an elimination game against Spokane at 12:05 p.m. on Sunday. The winner of that game will play on Monday, needing to win both games 14 and 15 to take home the title.
The Titans will next play in Game 13 of the tournament at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday against Lower Columbia. If TCC wins on Sunday, they will have two chances to win the championship on Monday against the winner of Spokane vs. Linn-Benton. With a loss on Sunday, Tacoma will automatically advance to Game 15, which will be a winner take all.
