Linn-Benton Walks Off 4-3 over Everett on Hockett’s Sacrifice Fly

LONGVIEW, Wash. – The Linn-Benton Roadrunners remained undefeated in the 2024 NWAC Baseball Championship, defeating Everett 4-3 on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning by Jordan Hockett in Game 8 on Friday night at David Story Field.

The Roadrunners entered the ninth inning tied with Everett 3-3 after a back-and-forth first eight innings. Cameron Ordway started the inning with a walk and then stole second base with no outs. Aidan Dougherty moved Ordway over to third on a groundout before Jordan Hockett brought him home with a shallow sacrifice fly to right field. The play was reviewed to see if Ordway left third base early, but the call stood, and the Roadrunners celebrated the victory.

The game went back-and-forth all night between the two region champions. Everett got on the board first on an RBI single by C. Burns. Linn-Benton tied the score in the third as S. Sullivan brought home Dougherty on an RBI single.

The score remained tied 1-1 in a pitchers' duel until the seventh inning when C. Beazizo broke the tie in favor of Everett with a two-out single to bring home M. Coleman. The Roadrunners quickly answered in the bottom half as Hockett drove in his first run of the game with a single to bring home Ordway.

Once again Everett retook a one-run advantage as Burns had his second RBI single of the night. Again, LBCC had the answer as L. Lindstrom beat out an infield single which brought home a run on an error by the Trojans on the throw. After a shutout top of the ninth, the Roadrunners took their only lead of the night to win the game.

Gabe Brabec made the start for LBCC, throwing seven strong innings with two runs allowed, five hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. Easton Corey earned the win in relief with 1.1 shutout frames.

Everett starting pitcher Ethan Hubbell was also effective as he went 6.2 innings with two runs allowed, nine hits, one walk and nine strikeouts.

The Roadrunners advance on in the winner's bracket and will matchup with Tacoma on Saturday at 5:35 p.m. in a matchup of the lone unbeaten teams in the tourney. Everett moves to the loser's bracket and will face Spokane at 2:05 p.m.
