Spokane Reclaims Men's Cross Country Title, Led by Hurd's Medalist Run

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - The Spokane Sasquatch men's cross country team won its 23rd overall NWAC title on Saturday at the 2023 NWAC Championships at Chambers Creek Regional Park.

The Sasquatch finished with 46 points overall to win the title over the two-time defending champions Lane by 35 points. Luke Hurd led Spokane by earning medalist honors with a time of 25:55, a PR for the sophomore. Kiler Borg took third place individually for Spokane in 26:29 to boost Hurd, while the team's top five runners all finished in the top-20 for scoring.

Hurd ran neck and neck with Lane's RJ Kennedy, who eventually finished second in 26:07. Hurd and Kennedy led the pack for the entirety of the race until Hurd was able to pull away in the final 1,000 meters.

Lane finished second place with 81 points while Green River took third with 88 points. Spokane and Lane have finished first and second in every championship meet since 2014 with Lane taking five titles and Spokane now four over that stretch.
