Lower Columbia Tabs Troy Shorey as Next Head Volleyball Coach

LONGVIEW, Wash. - Lower Columbia College has hired a new head volleyball coach. Troy Shorey takes the Red Devil job after spending the past two seasons as head coach at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Oregon.

"We're excited to have Troy join the Red Devil family", said LCC athletic director Kirc Roland. "He has proven to be a winner at Crescent Valley and we think he'll do a great job in the college ranks."

Shorey led Crescent Valley to back-to-back Oregon State 5A state titles. The Raiders defeated Bend in the final for the second year in a row. Crescent Valley's only two losses came against 6A champion Jesuit.

Shorey began his coaching career in 1994 as a co-founder of the Emerald City Volleyball Club in Eugene. He has also spent time as a club coach for the Webfoot Juniors and more recently for the North Pacific Juniors. Shorey also served as the head coach at Willamette High School from 1996-2000.

Shorey earned his AA degree at Lane Community College. He then got a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Oregon and followed that up with a Master's Degree in Special Education at Oregon. Along with his coaching duties at LCC, Shorey will serve as a College and Career Prep Advisor.

"Troy has the personality that our student/athletes will love", said Roland.  He's a winner and his volleyball knowledge are high-level, but his desire to help people is also impressive. I feel he'll be a great fit here at LCC."

Shorey takes over for Carri Smith, who retired from coaching after 11 outstanding seasons at LCC.

"I am very excited to be joining an institution that is not only successful in athletics but also academically", said Shorey.  "I look forward to continuing the tradition that has been set and hopefully taking it to another level."
