Position Summary

The Head Coach is responsible for coaching and recruiting students for assigned athletic event. Behaves and conducts work processes in a manner consistent with the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) coaching standards and the College's guiding values. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions

  • Provides quality coaching and instruction to students participating in the Volleyball program; develops, implements, and teacher related training sessions and techniques. 
  • Recruit student athletes in accordance with NWAC athletic regulations, conference and college values, and commitment to student success.
  • Supervise student athletes on trips and onsite during all program related practices, games, and team functions.
  • Creates, maintains and retains records on students, including, but not limited to, athletic eligibility, budgets, transportation.
  • Work cooperatively with the Assistant Athletic Director to develop sports schedules; budgets; transportation, housing and meal arrangements; fundraising activities and related tasks.
  • In collaboration with Director of Athletics, and Assistant Athletic Director, select qualified assistant coaches and/or volunteers.
  • Serve as role model to assist the team members in developing and displaying appropriate attitudes and behavior expected of athletic teams and individuals representing BMCC.
  • Provide post-season evaluation of all players.
  • Maintain minimum roster expectations set forth by the Athletic Department.
  • Establish a yearlong calendar of training, practices, scrimmages, and schedules in coordination with the Assistant Athletic Director. 
  • Participate in Athletic Department meetings as scheduled by the Athletic Department.
  • Facilitate team-sponsored fundraising efforts to enhance the program.
  • Behaves in a manner that is consistent with the NWAC codebook, including, but not limited to: NWAC coach's code of conduct, coach's standards and procedures, job responsibilities and Concussion Management.
  • Pass all required NWAC coaching tests and ensure that all assistant coaches pass NWAC tests.
  • Be knowledgeable of the NWAC codebook and NWAC East-Region SOPs. 
  • Communicate with Assistant Athletic Director on issues that occur in the program.
  • Follow all BMCC guidelines, administrative procedures, BMCC Athletic Policy and Procedures, and Athletic Training policies.  
  • Follows BMCC and NWAC rules and guidelines on Social Media.
  • Promote BMCC athletic programs in our community college district. 
  • Maintains sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, ability, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:

  • Ability to teach/coach students effectively and to evaluate their performance in the assigned activity.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, professional colleagues from other colleges and the public.
  • Requires personal attributes necessary to motivate students, guide the development of appropriate behaviors and values, plus must be able to facilitate the development of technical performance skills.
  • Must be sensitive to and understand the diverse socioeconomic, academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Ability to work closely with students to achieve their educational goals.
  • Knowledge of principles of athletic conditioning, including weight training and athletic training desired.

Other Aspects of the Position

  • Must be able to work hours required for coaching, recruiting, and competing.
  • Travel required for games and athletic events as needed, valid driver's license required.
Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • An associate degree.
  • Must possess competitive coaching experience at the high school level or higher. 
  • First Aid and CPR certified (can be obtained once hired).

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree.

Previous successful teaching and coaching experience preferred.

This is a part time position. Part time employees earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked. 

Pay: $12,750.00 a year.
