Duran's OT Winner Lifts Columbia Basin to NWAC Women's Soccer Title 2-1 over Spokane

TUKWILA, Wash. - The Columbia Basin women's soccer team won its first NWAC title since 2008, defeating rival Spokane 2-1 in overtime on Sunday at Starfire Stadium.

Violet Duran gave the Hawks the victory with her 96th minute over time winner on a free kick that found its way through the defense and to her right foot. Duran moved up from her defensive position to provide the biggest offensive play of the year.

The overtime goal would not have been possible without the late goal just before the end of regulation that tied the score at 1-1. Pressing to get the equalizer, the Hawks drew a foul in the box that gave them a penalty kick opportunity in the 88th minute. Janelly Verduzco burried the opportunity to eventually send the match to overtime.

The Sasquatch came up just short in their quest to win back-to-back NWAC titles, but still finished an outstanding year with a 12-3-5 record and as runners-up. Gracie Reidt scored the team's lone goal in the 10th minute, assisted by Abbey Jay.

The Hawks n their fourth-ever NWAC title, with the last coming in 2008. It is the first for head coach Omar Anderson.
