Edmonds Appoints Kyra Wendling as Interim Head Women's Basketball Coach

LYNNWOOD, Wash. - Kyra Wendling has been appointed as the Edmonds College interim head women's basketball coach, effective immediately. Wendling was an assistant for the program this past season and helped the Tritons to their highest finish in the past 14 years. The 2023-24 squad went 19-8 (12-2 in the North Region) and advanced to the Elite 8 at the NWAC Basketball Championships.

Wendling's most recent stop prior to Edmonds was at Seattle University as the team's video coordinator. She's been the interim co-head coach at Pacific Lutheran University, assistant coach at Everett CC, assistant at Hawai'i Pacific University, assistant at Agoura High School (CA), and held various coaching duties with V-Jam basketball club in Ventura, Calif. Wendling is currently the youth director, recruiting coordinator, coach and trainer for Northwest Blazers-Puget Sound Academy, an Under Armour sponsored AAU baskeball organization based out of Mukilteo. 

Originally from Southern California, Wendling played at Oxnard College before finishing her playing career at Hawai'i Pacific University. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Communications from Hawai'i Pacific. Wendling is a licensed coach with USA basketball and holds certifications as a NASM personal trainer and performance enhancement specialist. 

"In reaching out to our returners, all spoke very highly of Kyra, which helped in the decision to eventually promote her to this role," said athletic director Spencer Stark. "Kyra has been working towards the goal of leading her own program and we feel she is ready for that challenge. Assistant Athletic Director Rey Corujo and I believe she aligns with our department values of academic success and student-athlete experience."

"I'm excited and grateful for the opportunity," said Wendling. "Our expectation is to compete every day with a goal of moving our student-athletes on to the next level. I look forward to mentoring our women and helping them grow in all aspects of their lives."
