Umpqua Rallies in 2nd Half to Knock Off Shoreline 78-71 in NWAC Women's Basketball Championship

PASCO, Wash. – The Umpqua Riverhawks women's basketball team used a big third quarter to defeat Shoreline 78-71 in the Sweet 16 of the NWAC Women's Basketball Championship, presented by Sun Pacific Energy, on Wednesday at Columbia Basin College.

The #3-seeded Riverhawks (24-5, 12-4 South) outscored the Dolphins 22-10 in the third quarter, propelling them to the victory. UCC becomes the first lower seed to advance to the quarterfinals.

The duo of Audrey Miller and Victoria Hollingshead took over the game for the Riverhawks on both sides of the floor. Miller had 25 points and five rebounds, shooting a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. Hollingshead had 22 points, 14 boards and three steals. Shielteal Watah added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Shoreline (19-9, 11-3 North) led 41-34 at halftime as they shot over 40 percent from the floor through 20 minutes. Their shooting went cold in the third quarter as they were held to 3-for-18.

Taylor Eldredge led the five players in double-digit scoring for the Dolphins with 19 points, six rebounds and four steals. Leiah Naeata had 14 points while Symone Pease added 12 points.

The Riverhawks advance to the quarterfinals and will play the winner of Columbia Basin and Pierce on Thursday at 4 p.m.
