North Idaho, Bellevue Leading After Day 1 of NWAC Golf Championships

YAKIMA, Wash. – Day 1 of the NWAC Golf Championships is in the books with the North Idaho men's team leading the way after the first round, while North Idaho and Bellevue are tied atop the women's standings on Sunday at Apple Tree Golf Course.

The Cardinals men, who won every league match during the season, lead by 13 strokes after round one. North Idaho shot 1-over par as a team with a score of 289. Bellevue is in second at 14-over par, followed by Spokane and Southwestern Oregon at 16 over par, and Skagit Valley at 39 over par.

Impressively, the Cardinals have the top two individuals of the first round as well, with Josh McCartain leading at 2-under par with a first-round score of 70. Jarett Giles is in second at 1-under par for the Cardinals, followed by SW Oregon's Jacob Gold and Columbia Basin's Clyaton Whitby (competing as an individual) at even par.

On the women's side, it is a very tight race as NIC and Bellevue sit tied at 33-over par after round one. Columbia Basin is not far behind at 36-over par, followed by SWOCC at +63.

Defending NWAC Champion and medalist at all 2022-23 league matches, Bellevue's Sarah Lawrence leads the pack after round one with a score of 76 for 4-over par. Just behind her is NIC's Laila Jalil at 6-over par. CBC's Makena Nyby is in third at 7-over par.

The tournament continues and concludes on Monday with round two with an 8 a.m. split start.
