MHCC Faculty Member, Gabe Sandy's Journey To the World Series with the Texas Rangers
GRESHAM, Ore. – A Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) part-time faculty member, Gabe Sandy, is headed to World Series as a scout for the Texas Rangers. Sandy is also a former student athlete and former head baseball coach at MHCC.
From his days as a student-athlete to his tenure as the head baseball coach at MHCC, Sandy displayed unparalleled dedication and an unwavering passion for the sport of baseball. These qualities led him to a prominent role within the Texas Rangers organization.
"Gabe's journey from MHCC to the World Series with the Texas Rangers is an inspiring testament to the incredible potential that exists within our MHCC community," said Dr. Kim Hyatt, MHCC's athletic director. " We are proud to see his dedication to the sport and our students bear fruit in such a remarkable way and on such a national level."
As a part-time faculty member at MHCC, Sandy continues to inspire and educate students, serving as a living example of the heights that can be reached through dedication and hard work.
Now, as a scout for the Texas Rangers, Sandy has been instrumental in identifying emerging talent, helping shape the team's future success. In a critical assignment this year, Sandy's team faced the Mariners during a pivotal stretch of the season, squaring off against them in seven out of the last ten games. The outcome of these matchups determined the division winner and playoff participants. Sandy, along with a fellow scout, took on the responsibility of closely watching the Mariners and contributing to the creation of scouting reports.
"That was a big assignment I had this year that I got to contribute to and that felt great," Sandy said.
Regarding how he's feeling about this Friday's World Series game, Sandy expressed his confidence in the Texas Rangers, saying, "I really, really believe we're going to win it... I think we've been a team of destiny."
Sandy also had some words of wisdom to share for aspiring athletes.
"Put the team in front of yourself. If your teammates respect you then I'll respect you as a scout and so will your coaches," said Sandy.
