PRIMARY PURPOSE
Teach classes in Wellness for Life, Personal Health, Professional Activity and PE 185 Activity Classes. To coach and manage the Wrestling program. 

Description of Essential Functions

Teaching (80%)

  1. Teach basic and professional activity courses in Physical Education, Health, First Aid, Fitness Management and other courses offered by the Physical Education Department.
  2. Curriculum development and modification by working with the PE coordinator and other faculty members in developing or modifying course content, course objectives, standards and instructional methods.
  3. Participate in the student-advising program and college wide efforts to improve student retention and success.
  4. May teach basic courses in other academic areas as needed, depending upon need and specific Master's degree course of study.
  5. Serve on faculty committees both in the department, division and in the faculty at large as appointed by the Division Director, Associate Dean, Dean of Instructional and Student Services, or the Faculty Senate.
  6. Continued professional growth and contribution to the institution, including further institutional education or training, sustained self-study, to work with colleagues on new concepts and courses.
  7. Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, demonstrating an ability to work with others in a courteous and cooperative fashion.
  8. All faculty are expected to participate in and provide information necessary for recruitment and retention of students into their programs; and the marketing of courses, programs, and the college.  This may include travel and working with students and faculty in high schools, colleges and other institutions, and public and private agencies.
  9. Work with student athletes to help assure their success in meeting their chosen personal and academic goals which include referral to appropriate campus resources and placement of students who desire to transfer to other institutions.

Coaching (20%)

  1. Recruit and retain Wrestling players to Southwestern.
  2. Coach a Wrestling team, providing guidance to players' academic and athletic experience.
  3. Develop home and away participation schedules and expectations. 
  4. Manage budgets related to the Men's Wrestling program. 

Perform other duties as assigned.
 
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Attend conferences, clinics and professional meetings.

Attend student graduation ceremony at the end of the academic year.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A minimum of a Master's Degree in Physical Education, Health, related field, or in specific academic areas.
 
A minimum of three (3) years coaching Wrestling at the collegiate level (or equivalent).
 
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities to demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job for which they are hired, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
 

  1. Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences, both individuals and groups, taking into account various learning modalities and methods.
  2. Knowledge of computers and ways to integrate appropriate technologies into the physical science curriculum.
  3. Ability to evaluate student progress both empirically and holistically and to prescribe and develop curriculum materials for individuals and classes.
  4. Ability to motivate and inspire students.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate in English with others both orally and in written form which includes the ability to restate at various language levels, to simplify, and to use demonstrations which relate to previous knowledge and concrete experience.
  6. Ability to use instructional delivery methods which enhance a broad public access to post-secondary education.
  7. Ability to work cooperatively with department members and members of the college community at all levels.
  8. Ability to review, understand, apply and share concepts presented in training programs, conferences and/or professional literature.
  9. Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations as required.
  10. Knowledge and ability to teach classes in Wellness for Life, Personal Health, Fitness Management, Professional Activity and PE 185 Activity Classes or other academic areas.
  11. Knowledge and ability to coach and manage the Wrestling program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants for this position possessing one or more of the following knowledge, skills and abilities with receive preferred consideration through the selection process.
 

  1. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated success in a broad range of instructional delivery methods.
  2. Preference given to applicants with demonstrated success in teaching adult learners.
  3. Preference given to applicants with demonstrated success in teaching Health and Physical Education.
  4. Preference given to applicants with demonstrated success in coaching Wrestling at the College
