Get to know: Haven Anderson, Spokane Volleyball, Sophomore

Haven is a student-athlete representative on the NWAC Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee.

Q. 1 - Why did you choose your current college?

For an amazing Arts program and for my sport.

Q. 2 - When did you start playing this sport and how has your experience been getting to play at this level?

I started at age 11, my experience had been really difficult, but there was no questioning whether I was going to play in college. I knew I just had to find the right program for me, and here I am.

Q. 3 - What is your favorite part about playing at this level?

The independence and the relationships.

Q. 4 - Do you consider yourself a leader? If so, describe that about yourself either on or off the team.

I am a leader in moments. Sometimes, when there is a lack of control, one person with enough confidence can change everyone's attitudes. That is so important in games, and the energy is dying, that's when I become a leader.

Q. 5 - Who is your greatest influence?

My dad. His support is what has kept me going through all the hardship. He is my rock.

Q. 6 - What advice do you have for incoming student-athletes?

Don't be afraid to show your true self. I know from experience, that closing yourself off in order to fit, or to make yourself more digestible for others will only make you miserable. Being yourself is more fun for everyone!

Q. 7 - What is one challenge or obstacle that you have had to overcome in order to get where you are today?

Cliquey teammates is something that I've struggled with on teams until I got to college. SFCC was my first time feeling like I have been able to make genuine friends with my teammates.

Q. 8 - What are your plans after you graduate?

I plan to attend CWU, hopefully continuing volleyball.

Q. 9 - What is something you enjoy doing outside of your athletic pursuits?

I love to be creative, drawing is my safe space to express myself freely.

Q. 10 - Name one fun fact about yourself.

I'm a gamer.
