Three NWAC women's soccer standouts sign with The Evergreen State College

Evergreen women's soccer head coach Dave Morris has announced the signing of four more student-athletes to the incoming 2019 recruiting class. The foursome joins two others that signed in the winter, with another batch of recruits expected later this spring, according to Morris.

Joining the Geoducks this fall are Lucky Backus from Green River College, Colbi Stewart from Kingsburg (Calif.) High School, and Amanda Rickey and Amanda Rentzell, who were teammates at Tacoma Community College.

Backus was the starting goalkeeper and a team captain for Green River CC during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Twice an all-conference honorable mention selection, she compiled 264 saves in two seasons, including 163, third highest in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC), during her first season with the Gators. She also finished third in NWAC goalkeeper minutes during the 2018 season. Prior to her time at Green River, Backus played at Auburn (Wash.) High School where she compiled more than 300 saves as a three-year letter winner, two-time team captain and two-time honorable mention all-league pick.

Stewart played her prep soccer at Kingsburg High School in Kingsburg, Calif., helping the Vikings to the 2018 Valley championship and to a berth in the CIF Northern California Regional Girls Soccer Championship Division IV tournament. A midfielder, Stewart was credited with a goal and three assists. In addition to her soccer exploits, Stewart was a Rotary Top 40 Award winner and member of the Superintendent's and Principal's Honor Rolls.

A team captain, Rickey started all 22 of Tacoma Community College's matches this past season, helping the Titans to a 12-7-3 overall record and an appearance in the NWAC tournament semifinals. The sophomore midfielder was third on the team with 18 points from eight goals and two assists, and she finished the campaign by putting 73 percent of her shot attempts on goal. Rickey tallied one goal and one assist while playing in 19 games as a TCC freshman. Rickey was a four-year varsity performer and a team captain as a senior at Decatur High School in Federal Way, Wash.

Rentzell scored one goal and one assist while playing forward and defender during her two seasons at Tacoma CC. She was a member of the 2017 Crossfire Challenge and 2018 Washington Presidents Cup champions with Washington Premier FC 99 White. In addition to soccer, Rentzell has also competed in cross country and track & field. Before playing at TCC, Rentzell competed for the Gig Harbor (Wash.) High School girls soccer team.
