Lane sweeps 2019 Track & Field team championships

GRESHAM, OR – Lane Community College Men and Women crushed the competition as they cruised to team championships today at Mt. Hood Community College.
The Men tallied 227.5 points finishing 72 points ahead of second place Spokane who took 155.5 points. Clackamas finished third with 87 points followed by Mt. Hood with 80.
The Titan Women amassed 240 points to Spokane's 124 while Clackamas turned in a score of 98 and Treasure Valley finished with 76.5.
The title is Lane Men's eighth championship and seventh in a row. The Women celebrated their seventh championship and broke Spokane's previous streak of four in a row.
Lane first year head coach Bill Steyer was named Women's Coach of the Year while Clackamas skipper Keoni McHone was named the Men's Coach of the Year.
Meet Honors
Men's Field Outstanding Athlete of the Meet went to Lane freshman Sawyer Christopher. Christopher won the Javelin Throw and took third place in the Decathlon.
The Women's Field Outstanding Athlete of the Meet was Umpqua freshman Grace Campbell. Campbell was the Triple Jump champion and took second place in the long jump.
The Men's Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet was Spokane sophomore Jerome 'JJ' Curry. Curry won the 100M and 200M Dash races and was a member of Spokane's second place 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.
The Women's Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet went to Treasure Valley sophomore Delia DeLeon. DeLeon had a triple crown winning the 800M, 1500M and 10,000M Runs and was a member of Treasure Valley's 4x400M Relay team that finished 5th. DeLeon will be moving on to Oregon State next year to compete for the Beavers.
Clackamas sophomore Essence Foster was the Women's High Point Athlete of the Meet. Foster amassed 34.75 points winning the 400 Hurdles and the Heptathlon. She also placed in the 400M Dash (3rd), Long Jump (3rd) and was a member of the Cougars' 4x100 (4th) and 4x400 Relay (3rd) teams.
Southwestern Oregon sophomore Bryan Terry was the Men's High Point Athlete of the Meet. Terry collected 28 points winning the Shot Put & Discus Throw and placing second in the Hammer throw.
