Lower Columbia Softball Joins 550 Community Volunteers In Day Of Caring
It was worth skipping a day in the weight room and on the practice field.
For the 4th consecutive year, Red Devil Softball worked alongside hundreds of other volunteers from the community in the United Way's annual Day of Caring. It's a day that's about team building, giving back and helping those in need, as local organizations gather outside of work to make a difference together.
The Red Devils team included 18 players and two coaches who were assigned to a painting project at the Children's Discovery Museum in Longview, WA – which is a United Way member agency. The 6,000 square foot building needed two coats of interior paint and the Red Devils were up to the task during the six hours they spent on site.
"We look forward to this each year," LCC Coach Traci Fuller said. We have so much support from this community and we love to take a day to serve and give back."
Fuller added "some of our players have only known each other for 3-4 days. So this is a chance to work side-by-side, make friends and build our team. As their coach I love watching the leadership that evolves and their hard work."
The Red Devils have their first fall softball action on Saturday, holding an intrasquad scrimmage on the turf at Story Field on campus. The scrimmage is open to the public and will start at about 9:45 a.m. As part of the regular fall schedule, LCC will host a doubleheader with Warner Pacific University on Saturday, October 5.
